Quixotic Seville
Capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia, on the plains of River Guadalquivir Seville is considered the cultural, financial and artistic capital of Southern Spain.
Seville is the link to the Atlantic coast by the River Guadalquivir, and even today is an important river port.
It is a place ideal for the tourist with a warm temperature through the year, exception being the mild winter.
With a history over 2000 years old, from Roman, Moorish, Gothic to French, Seville boasts a heritage seen in its many landmarks, monuments and museums.
- Main Sights.
The Seville cathedral was built on the original site of the city mosque. It has the longest nave in Spain and is the largest Gothic cathedral in Spain. The mosques minaret was converted into a bell tower and topped by a statue representing Faith. With ramps rather than stairs the tower top was accessible on horseback.
The Royal Palace of Seville or the Alcazar is a Moorish palace, built over a period of 500years from the 12th century shows the various styles of the periods during its construction.
Torro Del Oro is a watch tower built on the banks of the river. This was a line of defense with a chain to prevent boats from entering the port.
The Town Hall, University and the Town square show the many diverse styles of architectural influences in Seville.
The Plaza de Esapana built with a mixture of styles has featured in many Hollywood films including Star Wars II and Lawrence of Arabia.
Seville also has many museums reflecting the artistic and cultural history that has influenced its growth. Worthy of note are the Museum of Fine Arts, The Archeological Museum, The Bullfight Museum, The Flamenco Art Museum, The Contemporary Arts Center, The Army and The Maritime Museums.
Seville has around twenty parks, some terraced, some with themes, but all worth exploring.

Seville Airport is situated 10Kms northwest of the city center.
It is located on the A4 highway that connects Seville with Madrid.
The airport has a bank and ATM, a café with two outlets offers pastries, cakes and coffee. There are also several shops that sell from perfumes, textiles, travel needs to newspapers and magazines including a large duty fee shop. Iberian delicacies can be bought from a delicatessen.
The airport also offers a VIP lounge and conference hall. It also has facilities for disabled passengers.
Car rental services are offered by Avis, Hertz, Atesa, Europcar and Crown car hire.
